Is Cosplay really art?

Recommended Posts

Costumes and modeling is a creative art. They had to make everything by hand. The costumes are a little whorey, but I suppose that is a byproduct of men drawing the women in comics.

I Would say yes. Cosplayers could be seen as performing artist/entertainers. But most would be hobbists I assume. And people that make the costumes can be seen as creative artist. Just like sculptures.

Sure it's art, pretty much the very definition of it. Takes passion, dedication and lots of work to create something visually stunning that entertains and brings joy to the people, so cosplay is most definitely art in my books. Cheers to people using ABY to tip cosplayers as well!

As a fashion photographer, I would say it is as much art as the models I shoot. And Cosplayers are actors as well, yes?

You're very much right Sir

Cosplaying is an art. Many cosplayers make their costumes by hand and the photography work in a lot of cosplaying galleries is just amazing. Cosplaying is basically two forms of art coming together in a unique way.
