  3. Eanger Irving Couse | Figurative painter Eanger Irving Couse (September 3, 1866 - April 26, 1936) was an American artist ⎆ and a founding member and first president of the Taos Society of Artists. He is noted for paintings of Native Americans, New Mexico, and the American Southwest. His house and studio in Taos have been preserved as the Eanger Irving Couse House and Studio - Joseph Henry Sharp Studios, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the New Mexico Register of Cultural Properties. Early life and education Couse (pronounced to rhyme with "house") was born to a farming family in Saginaw, Michigan. As a boy, he started drawing members of the Chippewa tribe who lived nearby. He attended local schools as a child and continued to work at art. Couse left Michigan for professional art studies at the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Academy of Design, New York. He went to Paris, where he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and Académie Julian under William-Adolphe Bouguereau ⎆. He lived in France for 10 years, painting mostly landscapes of the Normandy coast. Between 1893-1896, he lived at the Etaples art colony, where he painted its streets and fisher folk, including Coastal Scene, Etaples. Artistic career in the United States After his return to the United States, Couse first lived in New York. He spent time in Taos, New Mexico during the summers. At the turn of the 19th century, the Southwest, and New Mexico in particular, attracted numerous artists and writers because it remained untouched by national expansion efforts dictated by the American policy of Manifest Destiny. The artists and writers of this era wanted to capture the last vestiges of the Old West before it disappeared altogether. During his time in New Mexico, Couse studied and painted the lives and culture of the Taos Indians, a Pueblo tribe. He began to show his paintings of Native American life and earned his first solo show in 1891. In 1911 Couse was elected to the National Academy of Design. He also became active in the Taos art colony. In 1915, Couse was one of the six founding members of the Taos Society of Artists, and was elected first president. Another founding member was the artist J. H. Sharp, who adapted a chapel near Couse's house as a studio. Later Sharp built a combined house and studio on the land. The adjacent properties are recognized jointly as the Couse/Sharp Historic Site, and are preserved and operated by the Couse Foundation. Among Couse's works in public galleries are: Elk-Foot of the Taos Tribe (Smithsonian American Art Museum); Taos Pueblo - Moonlight (New Mexico Museum of Art); The Forest Camp (Brooklyn Museum of Art); The Pottery Maker (Two Red Roses Foundation); The Tom-Tom Maker (Lotos Club, New York); Medicine Fires (Montclair Gallery, New Jersey); Shapanagons, a Chippewa Chief (Detroit Museum of Art). Of these works, Elk-Foot of the Taos Tribe, painted in the summer of 1909, is considered Couse's masterwork. Eanger Irving Couse | Elk-Foot of the Taos Tribe, 1909 The painting was purchased for the United States national art collection by the well-known art collector William T. Evans and is now displayed in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Elk-foot, whose anglicized name was Jerry Mirabal, began posing for Couse in 1907 and was one of the painters favorite subjects because of his "physical beauty and ideal features". Legacy and honors ⎆ His works won recognition and numerous awards ⎆ from such institutions as the following: the Paris Salon; the Art Institute of Chicago; the National Academy of Design - Altman prize, 1916; the Salmagundi Club - Isidor prize, 1917. He was awarded ⎆ the Lippincott prize from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, 1921. He received awards ⎆ from: the American Exposition, Buffalo; the Boston Art Club, the Corcoran Gallery, the Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco - silver medal, 1915. His works are held in many museums in the United States and around the world. Two buildings he used as studios are part of the Eanger Irving Couse House and Studio -Joseph Henry Sharp Studios listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the New Mexico Register of Cultural Properties. This is one of 30 sites recognized as an "Historic Artist's Home and Studio Associate Site" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In 2001 the Couse Foundation was formed to restore and preserve the properties. It operates the historic site of the two artists and offers scheduled tours. Andò a Parigi, dove studiò all'École des Beaux-Arts ed all'Académie Julian con William-Adolphe Bouguereau ⎆. 9. Jack Vettriano, 1951 | Realist / Figurative / Genre painter Born in Fife, Scotland, Jack Vettriano left school at sixteen to become a mining engineer. For his twenty-first birthday, a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolour paints and, from then on, he spent much of his spare time teaching himself to paint. In 1989, he submitted two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition; both were accepted and sold on the first day. The following year, an equally enthusiastic reaction greeted the three paintings, which he entered for the prestigious Summer Exhibition at London’s Royal Academy and his new life as an artist began from that point on. Over the last twenty years, interest in Vettriano’s work has grown consistently. There have been sell-out solo exhibitions in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong and New York. 2004 was an exceptional year in Vettriano’s career; his best known painting, The Singing Butler was sold at Sotheby’s for close to £750,000; he was awarded an OBE for Services to the Visual Arts and was the subject of a South Bank Show documentary, entitled "Jack Vettriano: The People’s Painter". From 1994-2007, Vettriano was represented by Portland Gallery in London but the relationship ended in June 2007. In 2008, Vettriano undertook a variety of private projects, including the launch of a new book, Studio Life, and commissions to paint portraits of Sir Jackie Stewart and Zara Phillips, the latter of which was part of a charity fund-raising project for Sport Relief, the experience of which was captured in a documentary broadcast on BBC1 in March 2008. In 2009, Vettriano was commissioned by the Yacht Club of Monaco to create a series of paintings to mark the centenary of their world famous yacht, Tuiga. The subsequent exhibition, "Homage a Tuiga", premiered in Monaco as part of Classic Yacht Week in September 2009, before touring to the UK in 2010. In 2010, an exhibition of over forty new paintings, "Days of Wine and Roses", was officially opened at the Kirkcaldy Museum & Art Gallery in Fife, by First Minister, the Rt Hon Alex Salmond SNP. The exhibition then toured to London, opening at Heartbreak in September 2010. In December 2011, Vettriano’s self-portrait, "The Weight", went on long-term display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh, when it re-opened after a major three-year refurbishment programme. A major Retrospective exhibition to mark 20 Years of Vettriano’s career, opened at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow on the 21st September 2013 amd ran until 23rd February 2014. In April 2015, Vettriano established his own publishing company called Jack Vettriano Publishing Limited. Il 21 aprile 2004 l'opera originale The Singing Butler è stata venduta all'asta per 744.500 sterline. Jack Vettriano | Bluebird at Bonneville Vettriano mantiene laboratori d'arte in Scozia, Londra e Nizza. Life. for more such Artworks and Artists' follow SUJITH PUTHRAN

  17. Luigi da Rios - Italian Artist

Luigi da Rios | painter Luigi da Rios (1843 - February, 1892) was an Italian painter. He was born in Ceneda, Vittorio Veneto. He was a pupil at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, where he won a number of awards. Forced into exile to avoid conscription into the Austrian armies, he fled to Florence in May 1866. With the end of the conflict, he returned to Venice, and began to paint portraits, genre, and historical subjects. He exhibited frequently from 1867-1882 at the yearly exhibitions of the Venetian Promotrice di Belle Arti. Among his works are: Una cameriera; Torquato Tasso; Raffaello e la Fornarina; Le donne al pozzo (won first prize in 1872 at the Regional Exhibition at Treviso); Le analfabete (the illiterate); L'orfanella; Una calle a Venezia; Dopo la messa; Dopo il lavoro; and Lettura. He also exhibited in 1881 at Milano, 1887 at Venice, and at the Royal Academy of London. He painted frescoes for Villa Bisacco-Palazzi in Chirignago (1864), in Villa Visconti di Modrone on Lake Como (1866) and in the parish church of Chirignago (1878). He was appointed academic of merit to the Venetian Academy, and member of the Society of Watercolor painters of Brussels. He died in Venice in 1892.
