  1. Hello Art Byters

Hi Gates. I saw your caricatures in the gallery section. I wanted to give them a "like", but I couldn't figure out how to do it in the gallery section. Anyway they're very cool. I'm sure I'll probably figure out how to use this website a bit more efficiently, but it's going to take me a while.
  2. Charcoal on Paper

ahh the mystery is spoiled It could have been a small machine gun... Then again, it's not every day I get to see an umbrella repairman. That's kinda cool.
  3. evening by the lake

Nice. Love the happy trees, especially in the foreground.
  4. Charcoal on Paper

Very nice. Mysterious even. I keep trying to figure out what it is that he's holding in his right hand, slung over his shoulder. It's almost as if he's hiding it. It's not a gun, is it?
  5. Didn't Make The Cut

Begin work on a new project. Make it something so ambitious that it will eclipse everything else in your portfolio. You'll either finish it and be better prepared for the next job, or you'll get interrupted by some paid work and have to finish it later.
  6. Wedding Dresses in Abu Dhabi

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess no. Just a guess. But I think covering the hair and most of the skin in public is a concern in traditional Muslim women's garb.
  7. Those who can't, teach

Yeah, I'm going to disagree with this statement. I'm sure it's sometimes true, but probably more often than not, it's false. This sounds like something a disgruntled student might say to disparage a teacher. Imagine a teacher saying "If you can't pass my class, you'll never be successful". Both statements would be equally false. Think about all the dropouts who went on to great things. Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Madonna, Coco Chanel... Then consider all the famous artists who were also teachers. Georgia O’Keeffe, Marc Chagall, Ai Weiwei, J K Rowling, Steven King, Joe Satriani... The list goes on and on... Even outside of the arts, could Amelia Earhart not fly? I suppose I have some skin in the game, as I'm also a teacher. I really enjoy teaching just as much as I enjoy doing. I have students who have become incredibly successful who come back every now and then and thank me. I have a wife and daughter who sure benefit from the stability of my job as well. I don't produce as much art as I would if that was all I did. So that's a drawback. Also, after ten years of teaching, I'm not as good at my art as I would be if that's all that I did for the past ten years. But I'm OK with that too. I think it's all good. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but there's plenty of room in my range of appreciation for a bit of imperfection in art. I can also appreciate a teacher doing it, a housewife, a banker, a politician, a soldier, a vagrant, or a criminal. I can dig it. There's just too much hate in the world
  8. I like your image. It's very nice. As to the question of realism, it's more a question of taste. Most artists cannot achieve what you've achieved here in terms of realism. But that being said, when working in CGI, the realism of model, texture, lighting, and character effects such as hair, and character motion can be overdone. The result is termed "uncanny valley", and it makes people uncomfortable. On the other end of the spectrum, almost anyone can make CGI look so unrealistic that it has no production value whatsoever. I think, for a non-moving picture, you're hitting a sweet spot here. Nice work!

    Thank you!
  10. Hello Art Byters

Hello. I'm Ray. I've been an artist almost since birth. Been doing this professionally on and off in one form or another since the late 80's. I do and teach 2D and 3D art and animation. My website is rayhassan.weebly.com. I've posted several digital paintings to the Painters forum. If there's enough interest, I could post more, or maybe some time lapse videos of my process. I've always wanted to do one of those. AFviqo1G9sdcg58ovVuSLFgkF184jhC2co
