Great work. But i don't understand this sentence. How can you freeze ABY blockchain? Do you have some central node with privileges or something like that? I had assumed it was a decentralized blockchain. In addition, how do you control the wallet version of nodes connecting to the blockchain?

In fact in the web page it states:

Just like at your bank, your account balance and transactions are stored on a server. But, as a digital currency, ArtByte’s account data resides on a peer-to-peer (computer-to-computer) network that consists of all the computers logged into the network. These computer “nodes” are paid with ArtBytes for contributing their computer power to the network. This process is called mining.

Any information is appreciated. Decentralization is an important topic for me.

No, we can not freeze the blockchain. What I meant was that the attack froze the blockchain. ArtByte has no central nodes. Mining is controlled by independent miners, including solo miners and pools, just like Bitcoin.

This appears when I try to open my wallet. Hoe can I fix this issue? Of I have lost all my ABYs?

    ArtByte (formerly AppleByte) Error

Insight server appears to be down. Check that the server is running.

    Try Again

Can someone help me find a solution?

    Thanks!!

If you go to the wallet in your browser and see this message, you are using the online wallet. We have not released the fix for that yet, but will soon. If you use the online wallet, you do not need to upgrade that, because we will.

  3. Following the attack on the ArtByte blockchain and the fix we applied, it is mandatory to upgrade to the new wallet, version 0.13.1.0. The old wallets will not connect to the blockchain.

Of course, as with any software upgrade, it is always best to backup your data. To backup your existing ArtByte wallet, look in the top left hand corner and click "file", then click "backup wallet". Close your existing wallet and download and install the new wallet.

You can download the wallets here: https://github.com/AppleByteMe/AppleByte/releases

  4. The blockchain works as expected now. We have sent the updates to the exchanges and are compiling the new Win and MAC wallets.

Please upgrade your wallets, as we release the new executables. The new release is v0.13.10. You can get them here: https://github.com/AppleByteMe/AppleByte/releases

We will next upgrade our tipping apps and the online wallet.

  5. We have applied a fix to the ArtByte blockchain code and provided it to several miners. The blockchain is now unfrozen, as you can follow in the explorer. The attack had frozen the blockchain at block 1095079.

As you can see on the explorer, we are now at 1095411, and new blocks are being found as they normally would. We will be watching this over the next 24hrs and if all is working correctly, we will send the updated code to the exchanges next.

The Twitter and Reddit tipping apps will still remain temporally closed.

I think that the reason there is no visible LOGIN button on the main website is because that part of the community has not yet been released, and is just in testing as pointed out in this thread, so pushing it into production like that would be a really bad decision. Better to make sure that everything works out well first, and only then release the whole thing to the public.

You are correct. We are still working on it, so it has not been released.

Hey, thank you @Monkopotamus! I was able to transfer successfully. I have another question.

People on Reddit said that to know your balance, you message the bot +info. However, when I did this, I wasn’t given a number. All it gave me was a string of letters under “Deposit Address Balance.” So I wasn’t able to see how much was in my balance. How would I be able to see it in the future? It says “Use the Address above to deposit coins into your Applebyte tipping wallet” but shouldn’t the tips I accept be in there already?

Welcome to ArtByte! On Reddit you have to accept your ArtByte, with the +accept command. This has to be done within 2 days of the time you received it or it goes back to the sender. We sent you 20 ArtByte to your listed wallet address to get you started.

now I went into my wallet artbyte from another computer and these 10000 ABy on the wallet and judging by the history of transactions, I another did not send them. I'm certainly very glad, but how can this be?

I am guessing that the blockchain file on your 1st computer has become corrupted. Remember the real data is data is stored on the network, so when you logged in with your new computer it showed the got the correct data from the network.

  9. This week's showcase winner is painter, John F Metcalf

He is the winner of 5,000 ArtByte and will be featured all week on our 150,000+ social media!

His work is "Inspired by the repetition and variation of nature, Circle Motifs are freehand digital creations using only a basic circle tool and color pallet."

You can see more of his work on the ArtByte Forum here:

  10. The identical amount of the transaction is not relevant.

First, when you finish sending transactions, leave your wallet connected to the network for 5 - 10 minutes, so all your transactions go out to the network.

Second, if the mining difficulty has been very high (meaning that a lot of miners are mining), and then drops rapidly (meaning several miners stop mining for a while) no transactions will process until the difficulty drops back down. When it is back down, the transactions will go through. This happens several times a day, as the multipools increase and decrease mining on ArtByte.

You can see it easily on https://www.multipool.us/dashboard/pool/aby

    s6G3OgJh.png

Each time you see a spike shows that the multipools are mining. Each time the graph levels off, the multipools have stopped mining for a while. It can take a few minutes to a couple of hours for the difficulty to lower to the new mining level. Until it levels off, no one's transaction can process.

All mined coins have the same problem with this.

  11. The ArtByte Foundation is pleased to welcome Alex Likhtenstein to the Advisory Board!

Alex is one of the original developers in the Bitcoin ecosystem space. He has advised multiple ICOs, helping to bring them to market.

Here is a video on Fox Business News in the U.S. on April 2013, featuring Alex & his partner, Charlie Shrem:
